The Old Jax Theater - Jacksonville, Ga. - About 1947-1954

This building afforded much entertainment for the citizens of Jacksonville, Ga. The outside speakers blared out the actions of the cowboys and Indians on the silver screen and some Jacksonville citizens, rather inebriated, tried their best to emulate those actions in real life. They often wound up in "The Calaboose", a crude jail if ever there was one - located behind the theater. Some of the people who worked at "The Show" were Uncle Bunk and Aunt Will Bowen and their son, Cecil Bowen -- Tic Dunn and his wife from Fitzgerald -- John and Ruby Brewer helped them -- Uncle Horace Williams ran the theater at one time -- Dean Dopson was one of the projectionists -- Aunt Hazel Williams (married Mark Wilcox) sold tickets. We could get in for 9 cents, buy a hotdog for 10 cents, a coke for 5 cents, and have a penny left for a piece of bubble gum. Truly, those were the good old days. The theater is no longer there. But the memories are.
