Steamboat J. G. Carver

PHOTO COURTESY OF ROY McGREGOR - Thanks, Roy, for another good one!

Roy reports that this was the last steamer to run the river from Brunswick to Jesup. Hoke McDonald (see previous picture) was the Captain of the J.G. Carver. Allison "Boots" Brewer, Hoke's brother-in-law, a steamboat engineer, helped Hoke from time to time. Boots was also the engineer aboard the steamboat Robert E. Lee, operating between Brunswick and Jekyll Island before the causeway was built. Boots was from the Fishing Creek community near Lumber City.
