When Bonnie Prince Charlie and the McArthurs fought at Culloden, they lost. Therefore, the McArthurs had to leave Scotland and come to America. This old house, built about 1805, preceded the big house (see next photo) which was built in 1877. The two houses represent a storehouse of history and lore of the area. Some of the family lived around Jacksonville, Ga., at one time. The ceilings in the old house are very low - those in the big house are very high.
