Show-Off Sprite

Tallahassee / Quincy, Florida

As a child, I became very ill for months, … the better part of a year really.
The light of day hurt my eyes, so the only time I could venture out of a darkened room
is when it was grey and rainy. One day when I was so bored and lonely, (as my big brother
was at school), I found my Mom standing next to the window watching the rain. I asked what
she was doing, and she told me she was watching the faeries dancing in the mud-puddles.

“Huh?”

She had me look closely, … and when a drop of water would hit the puddle it would make
little concentric circles, … and she explained that if I remained very quiet and still,
I could actually see the little fairies dancing in the rain. I spent hours with my little
boy’s face pressed up eagerly to the window pane, absolutely convinced that I could just
see the fairies dancing. To this day I still am.

It’s not a guy thing, …
But it’s MY thing.
