Colorful End

St. Simon's Island, Florida

A Colorful End - To the vacation that is.
It has been a pleasant visit here on St. Simon’s Island. It’s a part of the “Golden Isles” of Georgia and North Florida, with protected waters on the landward side known as the Inter Coastal Waterway and the wild Atlantic Ocean on the Eastern Shores. Even now, centuries later, it’s possible to find gold and silver washed up on the shore from the pirate ships that used to use these islands as safe haven and refuge. The shallow shoals off the shoes of these islands were a favorite hunting ground of German U-Boats during WWII to stalk and torpedo the oil-laden tankers as they lumbered their way up from South Florida. Today these beaches are the playgrounds for college students, families, children and salty old fishermen that call it home.
