Voice of Reason 07-Jan-2005 17:18
For the morons who are criticizing Helmut: This photo is the first clue that something strange is happening while you are relaxing on your third-floor balcony in Paradise. How reasonable is it to expect that you would INSTANTLY assume that a drowning man will soon be floating by in the next 6 seconds?? I doubt you would immediately run into the bedroom, push the wife off the bed, toss aside the bed covers, remove the bedsheets, then tie the sheets together, then anchor the sheets to the balcony railing and lower the sheets down 3 floors in time to rescue the man that you astutely anticipated might come floating by in a rush of cascading seawater.

Peace!
Earl

p.s. - If you donote to the Red Cross, they will hound you relentlessly for the next 5 years for more money. Donate to any organization except the Red Cross, it is a fund-raising monster with a multi-million dollar marketing machine. Send your money somewhere that will make an impact rather than feeding the marketing machine.
USA GUY 02-Jan-2005 17:16
It's nice to see so many folks concerned about the (uncertain) fate of the guy in the picture, but why not be more concerned with the (certain) fate of the maybe 200,000 who have died for certain, and the 200,000 more that may likely die of disease and starvation if those of us rich enough to be sitting in houses typing on computers don't do SOMETHING to help.....religious and political commentary (and the French) ain't gonna help nobody!

Interesting line of thought, Vishal. But i would suggest donating some money to Red Cross, as i did. I would rather prefer acetylsalicylic acid than prayers if i had a headache. And this is far more serious.
