DSC01835DxO with nesting material

I jury rigged this "nest" holder with a rectangular baking pan and corrugated box, open on one end to attract mourning doves who like to look out from their nests. I also hung a large towel on the sliding door next to it, to give them more privacy.

Turned out it attracted some Carolina wrens who are feverishly building their nest this morning.

The area is quite dark, so I picked up my best low light camera, the Sony A7iii, which had the Tamron 28-75 lens on it, and then switched to the 85mm f/1.8, still hardly long enough to capture a close-up. I had to crop this image severely.

Then switched to an adapted Canon 70-200 f/4L, which I had to focus manually because autofocus worked only sometimes.

I am looking forward to watching and capturing this adventure through my kitchen window.

This is so cool. It is a great opportunity for you to watch the whole process from building the nest to seeing the young. Wonderful!
