Snapping Turtle

'Watch out" I shouted as my husband drove out of our community and I saw what I thought was some debris in the road. As we got closer I realized it was a snapping turtle! Its carapace was about a foot and half long. For moments like this I'm glad I always have my phone with me! You have to be careful moving one because it can either hurt you or you can hurt it.

Did you know: In 2006, the snapping turtle was declared the state reptile of New York by a sweeping vote of the New York Legislature after being popularly chosen by the state's public elementary school children.
