As a result of an extreme drought in Western North Carolina, fires are springing up all over the place. I have never seen an orange sun in the afternoon before and had to severely underexpose this image to capture it. You can see the smoke which has been wind-blown from miles away to my area.

I started noticing the burning smell on Monday and wondered who among my neighbors was crazy enough to burn leaves in this drought and slowly it dawned on me that the odor was coming from the far-away fires.
