These birds have been even harder to capture than pileated woodpeckers.
Went out this morning to survey damage from last night's hailstorm and to pick up the morning paper. I heard a bird in the tree in front of the house, and saw that it was an elusive towhee.
Ran in the house to get my camera which had a 300mm lens on it, plus a Tamron 1.4X teleconverter which I hadn't used in years.
Just my luck, he flew on top of a young weeping red birch tree and stayed there for many, many pictures.
I am beside myself with glee!
