_MG_9599 Mantis

It's only a baby - maybe one and one-half inches long in the body. Perhaps a distant relative of the batch I hatched a couple of years ago? This one is very wary. Keeps jumping away from me. Not as tolerant of the camera as the ones I raised. Maybe they really did get used to having me around with the camera.

I really do think when you hand raise them they get used to you. I could pick up the one I had raised and pose on most anything. I am hoping to see some this year, I saw some earlier in the spring when the tomato plants were not so full. Hopefully the will show up[ on my Lantana bushes which is where all the butterflies feed that they like to eat.
