The coastal town of Tugaya is known as Lanao del Sur’s “industrial center” for a good reason. It is here where virtually all Maranao handicrafts and souvenir items are made -- from kris swords and daggers to bauls to tribal drums to brasswares -- except perhaps the malong. Usually, workshops are found under the house, and one can hear the sound of pounding hammer emanating from every house.
