1971 Gilbern Invader Estate

Haynes International Motor Museum, Sparkford, Yeovil, Somerset

HAYNES DESCRIPTION:

Production started in 1969 and continued till 1972. Of the total production of 394 cars, 78 were MK1'S, 209 were MK11's and 209 were the Estate versions. Cars were available in component form or factory built. Electric windows were standard, together with a walnut veneer dash board, although some cars were fitted with the Gilbern Genie style vinyl dash but with a different lower console. In common with the late Genie all models have MGC suspension but the front lever dampers were replaced with double wishbones with coaxial coil springs and dampers. Power is provided by the MK1V Zodiac 3 Litre Essex V6 Engine, with overdrive gearbox as standard and an automatic gearbox as an option. The MK1 chassis was modified from the Genie and later modified again for the MK1, with different suspension points and a Panhard Rod in place of the Watts Linkage. The Estate model also had redesigned rear shock absorbed mountings.
