HAYNES DESCRIPTION:
In common with major manufactures after World War II, Standard marketed a reduced range of its pre-war models. This continued until 1948 when they introduced one new model, the Phase 1 Vanguard. In 1951 the notch-back Phase II appeared and indeed throughout the 1950's the Vanguard was updated. In 1958 however the stalwart 4 cylinder Vanguard had begun to show its age. It was left to Italian stylist Michelotti, to give this model a final breath of life, in conjunction with specialist coach-builders Vignale he arranged a facelift for the remaining few years of production.
