Very good eye. Yes, two exposures were blended so that the rocks weren't totally black.
I shot this in Cassville, WI along the Mississippi river.

Beautiful lighting, colors, and composition here, John...where is this? Did you combine exposures here...the photo looks very well exposed for this kind of difficult lighting situation. So calm and peaceful a scene. Nice photo. MFC
