Canada Goose

The Canada Goose is mostly regarded as a feral bird of introduced stock in Scotland and so is not usually of that much interest. It is commonly found in lochs, ponds, reservoirs and ornametal waters. It is a noisy species especially in flight with a loud honking call which at a distance can be mistaken for Whooper Swans.
There is a complex number of sub-species of Canada Goose which are not well illustrated in most field guides. Current thinking splits them into Greater Canada Goose and Lesser Canada Goose each with a number of sub-species. We do regularly encountered small numbers from these rarer forms such as the Parvipes, Cackling, Richardson's and Taverner's.
