The shofar, a kind of natural trumpet usually made from a ram's horn, is sounded at Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year. Rabbi Micah Shotkin, who graciously posed for this image, is affiliated with JET a wonderful Jewish education organization in Ottawa. I had the opportunity to try blowing the shofar for the first time in my life at a seminar he taught.
