Walking with the Madonna
19 July 2006 (306)

Salisbury, UK

On the lawn surrounding Salisbury Cathedral
-- and facing you as you enter the Close from the High Street --
is a life-size bronze statue by Elisabeth Frink, entitled 'Walking Madonna'.

A sculpture of the Virgin Mary striding purposefully towards the city,
it was placed here in 1981: a timeless reminder of the woman
to whom the cathedral is dedicated.

Messing around with low light and high ISO settings, tonight....
(The bottom two shots are from 'the archive', by the way.)

I've just checked some unpublished photos. Exactly 52 minutes later, I was there!
(I'd been at Amesbury photographing a friend fishing - thought I'd have a look at the cathedral before returning home!)
Great crop on this one!

Good creative shot, well done.

Looking at all that scaffold I suspect there's an element of rebuilding going on.

Interesting idea. Although she seems a bit far, we can imagine her strolling with the others. They should have made her not so dark and somewhat shorter to blend better in the crowd.
