Croome d'Abitot, Worcestershire

Having admired the skilful and intricate carving of this,
I have now discovered it is by my hero, Grinling Gibbons.
Lord Coventry's hand is reaching out towards the figure of Faith:
who, originally, held a crown to give to him.

an interesting thing about this one is that the translation of the latin blurb includes the phrase "he needs no titles or epitaph"...but they hedged their bets
