Underwater bell

Île d'Ouessant, Bretagne, France

Pointe de Créac'h: remains of an experimental underwater bell system (1912) to warn passing ships for the dangerous waters on Ouessant's west coast.
In foggy weather, the bell was immersed from this tower 7 meters into the ocean to emit signals to passing ships.
These ships had to be equipped with special hydrophones on their hull.
The device was used from 1912 till 1919.
