On one leg

West Jefferson, Ohio view map

A female Common Yellowthroat carries an insect in its beak while clinging by one leg to a plant
in Prairie Oaks Metro Park near Columbus, Ohio. In every photo, this bird has only its right leg
extended. When I looked closely at the other images, it doesn't appear that the left leg is injured.
It looks more like it can't extend, as if it is a birth defect of some sort. It hasn't hindered her
ability to capture insects and she had a male Yellowthroat hanging around, so I guess she's
doing alright. Additional bird images are in my Animals gallery.

Excellent details ...... great to see that she can get that mouthful with what looks like a deformed leg. Great shot.

She ought to be well-fed after that wad. The detail is just stunning.
You just keep getting better and better.

After trying my hand at that eagle, my respect for you birders is up ten fold. This is an outstanding image. Quite frankly, I don't know how you guys do it so consistently well. Vote.

Hi Pat. :) This capture is magnificent! The sunlight, the sharp focus on her eye, and to see her busy at work. Fantastic shot! :) Glad to know she is doing so well with her strong leg.
