We recently attended an event on North Carolina Avenue SE and at Lincoln Park to commemorate the last time — 100 years ago — horse-drawn carriages were used to respond to emergencies.
One hundred years ago, on June 15, 1925, the DC Fire Department held a ceremonial “Last Run of the Horses” to commemorate the service of the great fire horses, who were no longer needed due to the creation of motorized fire trucks.
I got to visit with the three horses at the event — Grace, Hope and Wylie Coyote — whose picture I’ll post next.
