This 73-meter-high Kannon statue overlooks the hot-spring resort city of Kaga in Ishikawa Prefecture. The reinforced concrete structure, named Kaga Dai-Kannon, was built in 1987 by a local real estate magnate. The infant she holds is said to be 15 meters long. According to the NHK news outlet, many of the 15 giant Kannon statues around Japan are falling into disrepair since they’re expensive to maintain. Luckily, we saw this one only a few years after it was built. They also pose a safety risk unless they have aviation obstruction lights, which this one doesn't today.
