Urakami Cathedral, Hiroshima

Urakami Cathedral was completed in 1914 after Catholic believers has worked on it for 30 years, brick by brick. Parts of the walls still stand. The cathedral was reconstructed in 1959; in 1980, it was remodeled with brick tiles and restored to its original appearance. Visitors to the cathedral today can view bombed remnants of stone statues and the single bell that withstood the atomic bomb blast that tolls three times a day to announce the hour.

Interesting memorial reflection dark hours in the past. Lets hope the atom bomb will never be employed again, but with the proliferation of nuclear-ready nation, this may be wishful thinking. Mankind are their own worst enemies.
