Nikko is a popular destination for Japanese and international tourists. Attractions include the mausoleum of shōgun Tokugawa Ieyasu and the Futarasan shrine, which dates to the year 767. There are also many famous onsen (hot springs) in the area.
Founded in 766, Rinnoji Temple enshrines the three Buddhas of the mountains behind it and is part of UNESCO World Heritage Site The Shrines and Temples of Nikko.
