Going native

Tim’s Japanese language class on their field trip to Nagano Prefecture, where they were served fried grasshoppers (Tim said they were “sweet”). I’m struck by the fact that this was an entirely male class, mainly white men. The State Department has embraced diversity in the intervening 35 years, and the composition of the class would be far different now.

The clothes lack diversity but on the tables there are more colors. Great shot. V.

The sake probably helped the grasshoppers go down.
My hips hurt from looking at this photo. <:o(

The lack of diversity is definitely on display. An interesting scene of the traditional meal. V

Wow, that looked like an authentic Japanese restaurant with those low tables where diners were expected to sit Japanese style, either cross-legged or on their lower legs bent at the knees. Not easy to do this esp for older folks! Some restaurants have pseudo low tables like these, but with a 'box-out' below the tables where you can put your legs, so effectively you are sitting in the normal way ... nice shot for the album and the memory. A fascinating slimpse into the not too distant past. The table looks well set and stocked.

It is a jolt to see pictures from the past and notice how life has changed for the better. Looks like an interesting meal including grass hoppers.
