These two women are part of the Duck Watch team at City Wildlife, which rehabilitates injured and orphaned wildlife in Washington, D.C.
They were in our neighborhood Sunday because on Friday, neighbors found two small ducklings in the alley and captured one of them, while the other one got away. On Saturday we could all hear chirping but couldn’t find any ducklings in our yards and couldn’t pinpoint exactly where the chirping was coming from. On Sunday my next-door neighbor climbed over his (pretty high) backyard fence into his absent neighbor’s yard and found two ducklings sheltering there, in the record heat we’ve been having and without any water. The ladies, who had come on Friday for the first duckling, came again on Sunday and took the other two away to be rehabilitated in a flock they’ve been working with. I think it’s time to make a donation to City Wildlife for the excellent and caring work they do!
