Christmas in Hong Kong (1/2)

We took another trip to Hong Kong, mainly to see the holiday lights. We had heard that the city was lit up like a Christmas tree, and indeed it was. We also planned to take a short tour to China, which will be the next section of this gallery. Suffice to say for now that while it was interesting, it turned out to be a disaster, and we were lucky to finally be able to get out of there.

I finally found my print pictures of all the foreign travel we did while posted with the State Department to Yokohama/Tokyo (1991-95) and our first tour in Turkey (1996-2000), including to Hong Kong, China, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Israel, Jordan and Germany. Since we can't really do any vacation travel these days, it's a nice trip down memory lane to revisit all those places we saw so long ago.

I love the Disney display. It is interesting they used Xmas. It would cause a lot of controversy today especially in the US. V

Very nice shot. You captured the lights well. The "Christmas season" in Hong Kong seems to start EXTREMELY early Many places start playing continuous Christmas music in August!!! To me, August is strangely early!!! New World Center no longer exists (as in your photo), so you captured another moment in time that is gone forever. I have fond memories of the shopping complex. I think they demolished the building in 2010. However, there is now Disney World Hong Kong. I've never been there, but I've heard from friends that Disney World HK goes all out in Christmas decorating. These decorations above seem to be a prelude. I look forward to seeing more of your shots of the Christmas Season from Hong Kong in the '90's.

not a common xmas image, but a well made sign at least...Mickey's square guitar reminds of one Bo Diddley used to play...
