Queenie the Norwegian elkhound?

Just for fun and to try to get an idea of what kind of breed Queenie is, we sent a swab with her saliva to Embark to test her DNA. The results were: Collie (32.6 percent), Norwegian elkhound (29.4 percent), American Eskimo dog (14.6 percent) and “supermutt” (23.4 percent). We were told and thought she was part German shepherd, but I can see a resemblance to the Norwegian elkhound in looks as well as behavior. The collie I find hard to believe (although I've been told about smooth collies, which is a possibility), the same with the American eskimo. We’d like to do it again, but getting her saliva on a swab was a challenge (gross understatement!) for all involved, so I don’t think we will.

Sweet shot of Queenie. Baldr is half Smooth Collie and people often mistake him for a German Shepherd.

She is looking very earnestly focused here (treats or food in the offing?). How interesting .... I'd have sworn she was part German Shepherd. Elkhound is not a surprise now that you have mentioned it. V

Lot of love in those eyes. V

Whatever she is, she's a beautiful blend of intelligence and love.

I like the super mutt distinction. She is a sweetheart.
Dennis Hoyne07-Oct-2023 00:59
What ever she is made up of. You got a good dog and she got a good home.

I love the % named super mutt! I’d just say she’s 100% super.

I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith in the analysis.

My uninformed guess is that she is 100% supermutt, which is, of course, the best kind of dog.

That's interesting. I do see Collie but I'm not familiar with the other breeds. She's got a very pretty head no matter what the mix.
Hank Vander Velde06-Oct-2023 20:49
Whatever make she is, she is beautiful.

She looks like she could be a mix of those, but appears pure adorable.

splendid portrait, great idea that DNA test!

Beautiful dog, but "super mutt". All my dogs were mutts.
pkocinski06-Oct-2023 12:31
I too can see the Elkhound now that I'm looking for it.
janescottcumming06-Oct-2023 12:20
Yes, I can see the Elkhound too! American Eskimo, I don't think so. V
Isabel Cutler06-Oct-2023 11:26
What fun! If I had a mixed breed today I would have the DNA done too.
Raymond06-Oct-2023 10:14
Regardless of her roots, she's beautiful. Look at those eyes full of love

In this photo, I can see both the Collie and the Norwegian Elkhound parts of her. What is a "Super Mutt"???
