London Bridge, Great Ocean Road, VIC (before it collapsed)

This picture, taken in the mid 1980s, looks very different from more recent pictures, and I couldn’t figure out why. However, I found this online at https://greatoceanroadmelbournetours.com.au/attractions/london-bridge/ with a current picture of it:

“Before 1990, London Bridge was exactly that – a bridge that connected the arch of land to the mainland. It got its name from its likeness to its namesake, before being later known as the London Arch. All due to its massive structure collapse on 15th of January 1990, with part of the bridge collapsing into the ocean. Leaving behind a chunk of land isolated in the ocean.”

I guess I photographed a piece of history!

Did you know two people had crossed the arch and had to be rescued from there on the day it collapsed ?
Good that you managed a photo before the view changed forever

Remarkable comparison of the two images. We tend to think these shifting landforms take eons, yet this major change occurred in less than a lifetime. Thanks for posting both. BV

It's a lovely image, it's neat to see how natural forces have always shaped things in this world, nothing is permanent.

an interesting formation to be sure...its current state brings to mind the London tube warning 'mind the gap'..
