Another spring display on Capitol Hill

These trees are all over the Hill right now. I used to think they were plums, but I think those bloom before the cherries, which are now long gone. From what I've been able to find, they look like eastern redbud, but if anybody has a better idea, please let me know!

Note: Juan had suggested Cercis canadensis, and it turns out that's the eastern redbud.

I think it's Cercis canadensis, and it blooms from March to May. I get confused with the late cherry tree, but no. Beautiful photography, Helen! V

a wonderful spray of colours...you can tell plums from cherries by the petals...cherry petals have a split at the tip, plums don't...also there are horizontal lines on cherry trunks, but not on plums..
