Construction started on St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Midtown Manhattan in 1858, and it was completed after the Civil War in 1878. The architect was James Renwick Jr., who also designed the Smithsonian Castle on the National Mall as well as what is now the Renwick Gallery.
The cathedral is across from Rockefeller Center, which is what all the people are photographing.
Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by PBase are decidedly unsharp.
