Not the best air quality in Ankara

I started this gallery of scanned memories of Turkey five years ago but kept getting distracted by newer pictures and never finishing it. The last major place I want to finish up is Ankara, where we lived for almost eight years during two Foreign Service tours. When we first moved there in 1996, the air pollution was at times terrible, mainly because of so much coal being burnt, but when we returned in 2003, the air was a bit cleaner. This was taken during our first tour there.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by PBase are decidedly unsharp.

Wow…..I’m glad it’s cleaner now. The smog is shown disturbingly clear. V

Not great conditions for working outdoors, or for photography for that matter.

It does make for a lovely soft effect for a photo - but oh, what a nightmare to have it constantly!

Poor workers on that building in the left - having to breathe that air all day. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your photos of Turkey.

Helen, thanks for sharing. You can see the air
pollution then was out of control.
