Up close and personal

We drove out Gravelly Point, right across the water from the runway at Reagan National Airport and directly under the flight path of departing planes. It was almost impossible to see what I was trying to photograph because the sun was blinding, but I managed to get this iPhone shot while Tim blocked the light. It may not be obvious, but those planes weren’t too high above us.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by PBase are decidedly
unsharp.

Big production, posted earlier:

Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max
1/1410s f/2.2 at 7.5mm iso20 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Well from what I see on Flightradar24, above Gravelly Point, the planes are around 500 ft high.
I remember once going near the runway at Reagan Airport, but I think it was in a park at the opposite. We had an impressive view on the landing planes.

Always fascinated by airplanes. I used to live close to the airport. Sometimes on nice summer evenings my parents would drive us out near the runway to watch the planes come in.

This is my favorite place to watch aircraft taking off or landing.

A fun place to watch the airplanes, I used to do that all the time (sixty some years ago).
