Hitching a ride

We found this insect on our car at the National Arboretum. I have no idea what it is, but I thought it was pretty interesting looking. NOTE: I thought it was a squash bug (anasa tristis), but apparently it's a stink bug.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by PBase are decidedly
unsharp.

A wonderful macro, right down to the fabric-like texture on its back.

Excellent capture. I wonder if it lost a front leg or if it's just hidden.

Wonderful detail. Love the colors. It's a leaf-footed bug as Christine notes.

Great macro, these have a strong tendency to move into your nice warm home for the winter sometimes with many of their friends!

Very cool shot of this interesting Leaf-footed Bug; those orange-tipped antennae and those hind legs with the leaf-like extensions are typical of Acanthocephala terminalis. V

Welcome. You just met your first brown marmorated stink bug: Halyomorpha halys
Family: Pentatomidae.
Make sure you don't bring this invasive creature home to your neighborhood.

Cool shot for sure. Maybe it got its name from hanging around cars.
