Historical marker

Markers like this can be seen all over the city, providing information on people or places that are part of our history. This one, which was leaning precariously, was across from the Hart Senate Office Building and said:

Sally Hemings, Thomas Jefferson’s slave, bore 5 of his children. Sally was never freed.

1 child died.
2 escaped.
2 were freed.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly
unsharp.

Thta is an amazing marker It is nice to see it there.
We must know our history.
It would be great to see it put back in an upright position.

It's a beautiful little historical marker. Sad information but at least it is out there for people to see. V

We should all remember this and be aware that slavery is still with us. It is just not so blatant. V
