15-Jan-2021 Tim Betts

Closed

This is now an all too common sight in DC – street closures, with each one manned by the police or the National Guard. To get through a roadblock, like Tim has to do to get to work, he has to present his government ID and convince the officer he needs to get through. Sometimes he crosses the river into Virginia and comes back into DC on another bridge to reach the office. Tonight it took him an hour to get home – normally a 15 minute drive – because he couldn’t find any streets open that led to Capitol Hill.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly
unsharp.

A scene not so shocking in some parts of the world, but in the US? Unbelievable, and all because one man and his conspiracy believing acolytes. I hope things can soon return to a state of safety. V

This does not look like the America we know. How sad.

I imagine this whole situation is an especially big pain for you both living there right now. Thank Tim for his part of the coverage. ~BV~

While inconvenient I imagine it's also reassuring given the recent events at
the Capitol.

I would imagine this is inconvenient to everyone who has to come and go to work. Too bad.

I am trying to orient myself in the picture. I am guessing that we are looking at the front of the Kennedy Center, and that the Reach is to the left. I have biked a lot on the trail beside the river on the other side of the Kennedy Center. Even that trial was closed once, more recently, due to some political event on the Mall.
