‘Community’

Anne Marchand’s mural complements the renovated playground on the one-block street in Shaw. Completed in 2002, the ornamental and multifunctional park has become a focal point for the close-knit community. The mural evokes the history of the neighborhood by including a unicyclist, recalling the city’s first bicycle club on the block in the 1870s, while Dizzy Gillespie at upper right gives a nod to the U Street music scene around the corner.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly
unsharp.

...and here it is! You got a great view without so many people there. Not much you can do about the playground equipment. I liked it way back then and I still like it.

a beautiful mural but what strikes me is the way you can drop the children in the waste basket, you put them on the drawer very funny BV Helen

I wonder if any of the kids will ask who Dizzy is. They would probably like Salt Peanuts.

Well captured. I like how the top of the jungle gym is similar to the peaks on the buildings in the mural. V
