D.C. Water main pumping station

D.C Water’s main pumping station was built in 1904-1907 in the Beaux Arts style with Renaissance Revival features and is still in use today. It’s located in The Yards district and is surrounded by what I called “development gone crazy” in the previous picture. The building at right used to be a huge parking lot that we used when visiting the area.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

Great old architecture. I like the contrast with the buildings it is framed by. It’s seems like they are trying to preserve the older buildings. V

The building has aged well but the important function is on the inside I am sure there are massive pumps that deliver the water to the folks in D.C. Very nice iPhone image.

It is surrounded by the glass covered boxes of 20th century architecture. Makes a good photo of contrasts as well the lovely old building.
