Post-op Sahraa

Sahraa had 23 teeth removed yesterday as well as a biopsy for a growth in her mouth. Last night she still had so much anesthetic in her, she could barely move, but this morning she can get around, even up and down stairs and out for a brief walk. She refuses to eat her soft food, which has a painkiller in it, so is crying a lot. Poor thing, she’ll feel much better with the teeth gone after she recovers, but it will be difficult getting there. In response to Isabel's comment, the surgery cost us $2,400...

Oh no, poor girl! She does look pretty miserable here. Don is right about the pain killers, they can do a number on some dogs. In the long run she will feel better about the teeth being removed but the mass in the mouth concerns me. Please let me know when the biopsy results come in. Where was the mass, on the gums, the roof of the mouth, under the tongue? Sending healing vibes to Sahara from all of us up here on Long Island. I think as a reward for her bravery she needs to take a trip back to Long Island in the fall for some more dog meet ups!

That is a hefty vets bill, Helen. Poor Sahraa getting all of those teeth out in one go! Lets hope she gets used to soft foods from now on. Imagine how we would feel having had all of those teeth removed, pretty ill I imagine!!

I’m so sorry she isn’t feeling well. II hope the biopsy comes back negative. I feel so badly when animals aren’t feeling well because they don’t understand.

So sorry to hear about Sahraa's health problems and to see her distress. I feel so bad for her just looking at this photo. It must be very hard for you and your husband to have your friend in this unhappy state. Get well soon Sahraa. (FYI, my dog Max was a very tough dude with a high pain threshold. He got injured one time and had to be stitched up and given pain killers, but he cried for an entire night. This was a dog that never cried. I contacted the vet the next day and he told me that it was extremely unlikely that Max was suffering pain. Rather, he was probably emotionally affected by the strong painkillers. Max got back to normal as the painkillers wore off.)

Poor baby. It must break your heart to see her suffer like this. I wish her a speedy recovery to total good health. We've been dealing with doggy medical problems here, too. I know how hard it is for the humans to see their beloved pet in distress.

Poor baby, but good move to take care of her teeth - bad teeth, bad gums can lead to heart problems. I hope she heals quickly and is soon able to eat. My Louie went in for a cleaning and the vet removed a boatload of bad teeth. He was fine after he healed. I hope you recover quickly from the vet bill, too. It's bound to have been massive. I think I remember something around $500 for Louie's surgery many years ago.

Oh how annoying for sahraa, it is not a nice intervention for her again, what a brave girl she has already experienced a lot in her life, hopefully she will soon be together again, I cross my fingers for her Helen BV
