Taking a break

This battered but still pretty butterfly seemed to need a rest and stayed here for the longest time.

*****

We went back to Piscataway Park on the Maryland side of the Potomac River, hoping to see some ospreys or bald eagles there again, but there weren’t any of either around. There were, however, a lot of dragonflies and butterflies as well as a barnyard full of sheep, cows, pigs and chickens at the National Colonial Farm. The extensive grounds are run by the National Park Service and simply gorgeous, a great place to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Best to view in "Original" or “Auto” because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

Still gorgeous despite its age - such a lovely blue iridescent sheen. I haven't seen a butterfly like that around here.

Beautiful color and texture throughout, from the butterfly's wings to the surrounding elements.

Did you shoot this in a butterfly garden? This looks like a Blue Morpho not native to our country. Nice shot.

the tattered appearance speaks of experiences...a certain beauty remains though...

It's still beautiful. They always seem to look like this at summer's end. Lovely colors and detail. V.

I heard that butterflies live only for a few days! This little guy has had a rough time I think!
