Suddenly the heron turned around and walked away. Tim thinks it was because he got too close from behind, but he couldn’t have been any closer than I was, so I doubt that was it. Probably just looking for a better place to fish.

It snowed a little on Tuesday, but we are in for Arctic temperatures over the next few days. The lake was half frozen when we took these pictures on Sunday, and I suspect it will be entirely iced over by Thursday, meaning the heron and other birds won’t have any access to food. I hate to say it, but I think he’ll be gone the next time we check in on him. Tim didn’t see any birds in the gardens last night, only the geese flying away.
Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.
