Carpet weavers from Armenia

Not meaning to disparage the Armenian exhibit at the Folklife Festival, as it was interesting enough, but after the excitement of the Catalan section, it was a bit of a letdown. We did, however, take a few pictures.

These carpet weavers really attracted the attention of that man, who finally sat down and watched from close up.

the Catalans and their human towers were compelling, yet what work is on show here is earthier and of greater importance....to take threads from those shaggy bundles and fashion an attractive floor covering is such an essential skill...a well documented moment..

Slow and painstaking, only to be stepped on at the end. How little credit is given to the mainly women who slave hours to create these works of art.
