Just for comparison, this is a shot of the same heron in the previous picture but taken with the Sony, which I find unreliable for such shots (but had nothing else to use). The bird was incredibly far away and on the move, so hard to nail down. I think I managed to get a blurry cardinal in this shot, which quickly disappeared.

Taken on the walkway connecting mainland Washington, D.C., to Heritage Island in the Anacostia River.
