My favorite bald eagles are back in DC! Last year I was glued to the American Eagle Foundation’s DC eagle cam and watched Honor and Glory grow from tiny eaglets to the time they left the nest for good, a bittersweet event. I’ve been looking to see if the parents, Mr. President and The First Lady, had returned, and indeed they have and are busy fixing up the nest for their next babies.
If anybody is interested in bald eagles, this is a great way to observe and get to know them. The eagle cam can be accessed at http://www.dceaglecam.org
Last year one of the eaglets got its leg stuck in the nest and was rescued by an arborist who climbed 95 feet up the tree to extricate it, and then did it all again after the eaglet was pronounced healthy by the Baltimore Zoo. For a very touching (and short!) video of the rescue and return, go to http://www.wusa9.com/news/local/dc/baby-bald-eagle-rescued-from-nest-in-dc/433134849
Note: This is a screenshot rather than a photograph; it looked better than the shots I took with my iPhone. I would recommend using original view for the best details.
