The Cathedral of the Holy Cross (known in Turkish as Akdamar Kilisesi [Church]) is located on Akdamar Island in eastern Turkey’s Lake Van. It’s a medieval Armenian Apostolic cathedral built as a palatine church for the kings of Vaspurakan in A.D. 921. It was restored and reopened as a secular museum in 2007, long after this picture was taken.
