A pendant-brooch designed by Cartier London in 1923, this incredible piece of jewelry contains seven 17th century carved Mughal emeralds, the largest of which bears an inscription that translates as “the servant of Shah Abbas,” in reference to the Persian ruler Abbas II (r. 1633-67). Another one that didn't lend itself particularly well to an iPhone photograph!
One of the main reasons we visited Hillwood was to see this exhibit titled “Spectacular Gems and Jewelry from the Merriweather Post Collection.”
