Bald cypress, in training since 1987

We visited the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum at the National Arboretum, reputed to hold one of the finest collections of miniature masterpieces in North America, with bonsai originating from Japan and penjing from China.

This tree was probably the tallest in the exhibit. Shot from an odd angle, I know, but I was trying to avoid that black frame behind it, unsuccessfully, as the tree was just too big. I tried to straighten the lines, but it looked too unnatural.

I’ll have to catch up with comments later; just too much news to report on this morning!

I do love these trees, and such skill to train them over the years.

So cool - interesting that they've used string to hold the branches where they want them. I think trees must enjoy so much attention and care :) V

Some people say that bonsai suffer to be so miniaturized. Although it creates an undeniable shape of beauty which Japanese sublimated. V.

intriguing that the trunk has been preserved in a true angle...the wires to manipulate the branches reveal bonsai technique so clearly..

How big is the tree? It sure is beautiful!
