There is only one village on Taketomi Island, with traditional Okinawan architecture, beautiful beaches, stone walls, sand streets and transportation by water buffalo-drawn carts. It had a population of 323 as of January 2012.
Taketomi has a lovely beach, but we spent all our time in the village and only saw it from afar. I think this was the only motor vehicle I saw during our day on the island.
