There is only one village on Taketomi Island, with traditional Okinawan architecture, beautiful beaches, stone walls, sand streets and transportation by water buffalo-drawn carts. It had a population of 323 as of January 2012.
Coral is abundant in these islands, and on Taketomi it is used for walls in front of houses in the village. I have also heard it is ground up and added to the sand in the streets.
